At least 9 hospitalized following pile-up collision in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, RI – At least nine people were hospitalized following a pile-up collision that happened on Interstate 95 South in Pawtucket on Sunday.

Rhode Island Police told WJAR10News the incident unfolded around 5 a.m. when an initial multi-vehicle crash led to two more crashes. Police confirmed that several people who were sent to the hospital sustained injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

A police vehicle, a fire engine truck, and an ambulance blocked the road to accommodate the on-scene clean-up process.

It was during the traffic congestion that several vehicle occupants exited their cars and got into fights with each other, according to eyewitness John Gomes.

Police said they are investigating the fights that broke out as well, but have not said whether they cited or arrested anyone in connection with these altercations.
