DUI crash in Woonsocket injures 2, claims 71-year-old man’s life

WOONSOCKET, MA – A 45-year-old man was said to have been impaired when he crashed his car into another vehicle, claiming the life of a 71-year-old man and injuring two people.

This deadly collision happened after 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 30th, at the Bernon Street and Maple Street intersection, according to Turnto10

Upon arrival, first responders took the 71-year-old man (who was found unconscious and was a backseat passenger) to Landmark Hospital, where he later died. An ambulance took the front seat passenger, a 25-year-old man, and the driver, a 64-year-old woman, to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of unspecified wounds. Police have not released the names of these individuals at this time.

The 45-year-old man was identified as Samuel Adams from Woonsocket. Authorities did not say if he and the passenger with him, a 34-year-old woman, were injured. Nonetheless, police booked Adams into custody for suspicion of operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and later charged him with “driving while under the influence, death resulting, and driving to endanger, death resulting.”

Officials have given him $25,000 surety bail and indicated he attended a formal arraignment at the 6th District Court on Monday. In addition, he is expected to receive more charges, which have not been specified.
