Young girl killed in Webster pedestrian crash on Saturday

WEBSTER, MA – A child playing outside died after a vehicle hit her on Saturday near School Street in Webster, reports 7 News WHDH.

Police say the girl was on foot when the collision happened. Witnesses told reporters that first responders tried to save the child at the scene. Emergency crews later rushed her to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

When the collision happened, people nearby said that they heard the impact and went outside to help. One resident described hearing a loud noise and then seeing backed-up traffic. He said he also saw a damaged vehicle and the girl lying in the roadway. Neighbors say that drivers often move too fast through the area.

Community members have created a memorial near the site of the crash and plan to gather there Monday night for a vigil.
