Man pleads not guilty for fatal hit-and-run crash on I-95 in North Attleborough

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, MA – According to WJAR, the man accused of a deadly hit-and-run crash on I-95 on Aug. 28 pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.

Joseph Pompei, 50, was driving a grey Ford Mercury on I-95 SB when he strayed across the middle lane and collided with a white SUV.

The collision sent the SUV crashing into a northbound black sedan.

Pompei allegedly fled the scene. Authorities arrested him as he was making repairs to his vehicle.

Rescue crews transported the two Randall Ricketts and James Griffin, 61, to an area hospital. Ricketts died the same day, and Griffin died in October.

Authorities charged Pompei with two counts of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation and two counts of leaving the scene of personal injury and death.

Pompei pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was given a $50,000 cash bail or a $500,000 bail with surety. He was also ordered not to drive.

Pompei will have a pre-trial conference on Feb. 1 and a pre-trial hearing on May 23.
