Car plows into tree in Newton, sending 2 to hospital

NEWPORT, RI – Two people were taken to Rhode Island Hospital after their white Toyota Corolla sedan plowed into a tree Wednesday.

WJAR News 10 said the solo collision happened before 12:45 a.m. off Ocean Drive and Hazard Road. The impact left the driver, a 29-year-old Fall River woman, trapped inside.

After fire crews arrived, they safely extricated the unconscious woman. Once the extrication was complete, EMS crews transported her and her passenger, a 29-year-old Taunton man, to the hospital.

The man is in stable condition, while the woman is in critical condition. First responders said the woman was undergoing treatment for her legs and pelvic bone.

Newport police are investigating why the driver lost control of her vehicle. New details will be provided after authorities confirm more details.
