Beloved Rhode Island musician killed in Hope Valley crash

HOPE VALLEY, RI – A  Grammy-nominated musician died Saturday when a reckless driver struck him along a major roadway in west-central Washington County, reports the Hopkinton Police Department.

The accident happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Spring Street, or RI-138, between Soap House Lane and Maple Street in Hope Valley, which is about four miles northwest of Richmond.

Police say that 70-year-old Roderick Macleod was walking his dogs on Spring Street when a vehicle hit him. The car also impacted with a pair of telephone poles.

Macleod died after transport to an area hospital.

The victim was a member of the 1980s band Roomful of Blues.

Authorities arrested the driver, identified as 41-year-old Shannon N. Godbout, on charges that include driving to endanger and possession of narcotics.

A full investigation is underway.
