DARTMOUTH, MA – A married couple died Monday in a crash involving a single-engine plane and a sedan along the interstate in south-central Bristol County, reports WHDH 7 News Boston.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. near exit 19 on I-195 in northwest Dartmouth. This is near the Noquochoke Wildlife Management Area and Interchurch Council Land.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a plane carrying Thomas and Agatha Perkins fell onto the interstate, hit a silver car, and caught fire. Both people in the plane succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The driver of the car involved in the crash did not sustain injuries.
Officials closed the westbound side of the interstate for an extended period of time Monday while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
