Male driver charged with DUI after crash that injured 3 in Johnston

JOHNSTON, RI – A male driver was charged with DUI in connection with a crash that injured three people in Johnston on Saturday, WJAR10 reports.

The incident occurred after 2 a.m. on Greenville Avenue. Police said the man crashed his car into a utility pole, which caused the vehicle to overturn on its roof and injure three out of four passengers.

EMS crews said the three people sustained minor injuries, but did not confirm if they needed to go to the hospital.

Police did not report any injuries for the driver, identified as Elvis Goins, 19, of Glocester.

Police did, however, say Goins exhibited signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and refused to take a field sobriety test. Subsequently, officers arrested him.

A full investigation is underway.
