LITTLE COMPTON, RI – A 16-year-old teenager is being charged in connection with a UTV rollover crash that killed one 5-year-old girl and injured another on Sunday.
WJAR News 10 said the collision happened before 2 p.m. on Long Highway. Police said a 16-year-old teenager was driving a UTV on a grassy field when they lost control of it, causing it to overturn. The teenage driver and their seven passengers were ejected.
EMS rushed one 5-year-old girl to Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The girl taken to St. Anne’s later died, while the girl who went to Hasbro was treated for serious injuries and is listed in stable condition.
The teenage driver is being charged with driving to endanger, death resulting, and driving to endanger, serious bodily injury, and is being held at Rhode Island Training School.
The source said that according to a wedding website, a wedding was held on the same day as the crash, although it is not clear if the wedding and UTV crash were connected.
