RAYNHAM, MA – Two people were hospitalized after a driver fled a traffic stop and crashed Tuesday near Routes 24 and 44 in Raynham, reports NBC 10 News.
Massachusetts State Police said the incident began around 5 p.m. on May 5 when officers received reports of an erratic driver in a white Mercedes. Officials say the car had been spotted traveling on southbound Route 24 near Bridgewater.
A trooper reportedly identified and attempted to stop the Mercedes, but police say the driver fled using the road shoulder. The trooper chose not to follow due to heavy traffic that posed safety concerns.
Investigators said the Mercedes continued south before colliding with two vehicles near Route 44. According to police, the driver then fled toward nearby woods on foot. However, officers found the driver and took them into custody.
Paramedics transported the driver and one other person to nearby hospitals. Officials have not released details about their injuries.
Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
