PORTSMOUTH, RI – Multiple people were hurt Tuesday in a chain-reaction crash that happened along Mount Hope Bridge in Portsmouth, reports 10 WJAR.
Around 12:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a four-vehicle collision on RI-114 between Bristol Ferry Road and Old Ferry Road.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a box truck rear-ended another vehicle on RI-114. This initial collision caused a chain reaction of crashes involving two additional vehicles.
While many people were hurt, there’s no word yet regarding the number of victims who required hospitalization.
Officials closed Mount Hope Bridge Tuesday afternoon while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.
