LINCOLN, RI – Three people died Sunday morning in two-vehicle collision along the highway in northeast Providence County, reports WCVB 5.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to a wrong-way accident on Route 146 near Route 116 in Lincoln, which is around ten miles northwest of Providence.
Police say that the driver of a southbound Ford pickup truck entered the northbound side of Route 146 and collided head-on with a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe.
The impact of the collision caused both the pickup truck and the SUV to catch fire.
The wrong-way driver, identified as Denis Aguilar Campos, died at the scene.
Two people from the Tahoe died. Authorities identified them as 20-year-old Jaylin Rainford and 20-year-old Chiemelie Okonkwo.
No charges have been filed thus far.
A full investigation is underway.
