PROVIDENCE, RI – Two men were injured in a collision that happened during the Feast of Saint Joseph in Federal Hill over the weekend.
The incident occurred on Atwells Avenue. An eyewitness who shared video footage with 12 News reveals a motorcyclist, later identified as 19-year-old Michael Carnevale, was riding a motorcycle at a high rate of speed.
Carnevale reportedly ignored the roadblocks in place set for the festival and weaved in and out of traffic before being struck by a trash can, thrown by someone in the crowd.
Carnevale lost control of his bike and was ejected. His bike then crashed into an outdoor tent and struck a man identified as 46-year-old Christopher Woodley.
Woodley told the source that he jumped in front of the bike and sustained several broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a gash on his head. EMS crews rushed him and Carnevale, who suffered minor injuries, to Rhode Island Hospital.
Woodley received the treatment he needed. No injuries were reported for his fiancée, who was sitting with him at the outdoor tent at the time of the collision.
Police said they cited Carnevale for operating the motorcycle without the proper registration, license, and insurance, and have not said whether he would face charges at this time.
