4 hospitalized after multi-car wreck with semi in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – Fourteen people were taken to a hospital Tuesday after a 12-vehicle wreck involving a semi-truck on I-195.

The collision took place at around 9 a.m. on the westbound lanes, according to WJAR News Channel 10. Preliminary details from Rhode Island State Police suggest that the truck driver had failed to yield for traffic, leading to the collision.

One woman was left in serious condition, while 12 other occupants and the truck motorist, 64-year-old Jon Main, from Cranston, sustained minor wounds.

Main was charged with driving to endanger, resulting in physical injury. He can expect an arraignment after his hospital release.

East Providence police, State police, Seekonk police, Rhode Island Department of Transportation crews, the Cranston Fire Department, the Warren Fire Department, and the East Providence Fire Department were all summoned to the scene.
