WARWICK, RI ā A Warwick police officer was sent to the hospital after a single-car crash that damaged a utility pole on Wednesday.
The incident happened before 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of West Shore Road and Waverly Street, WJAR10News said. The Warwick officer, who was operating a police cruiser, was driving on West Shore Road, approaching Conimicut Village, when he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole.
The pole came out of place, and the officer sustained unspecified injuries. EMS transported him to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Rhode Island Energy crews were also called to the scene and had to replace the pole.
Itās not immediately clear if people in the area experienced any power outages because of the crash.
Warwick police confirmed the officer was not en route to an emergency call, but did not confirm whether the officer was on or off duty.
A full investigation remains underway.
