CRANSTON, RI – A wrong-way driver collided with another vehicle head-on at I-295 and RI 37 Saturday, according to WLNE.
Jay Petit was driving a Kia Optima the wrong way on RI 37 when he merged onto the exit ramp with I-295 around 7 p.m.
Petit continued driving the wrong way until he collided with a Honda Accord. Rescue crews transported the Accord driver to an area hospital in unknown condition.
Following the collision, Petit left the area on foot. Authorities located Petit and arrested him on multiple charges, including driving to endanger resulting in personal injury, DUI resulting in serious bodily injury, refusal to submit to a chemical test, duty to stop in an accident resulting in injury, and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.
