SOUTHBOROUGH, MA – A Leominster woman sustained fatal injuries Friday in a two-vehicle crash along the highway in east-central Worcester County, reports WCVB 5.
Shortly before 3 a.m., emergency crews responded to Turnpike Road, or Route 9, near Oak Hill Road in Southborough, about 24 miles northeast of Worcester.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a westbound driver entered the eastbound side of Route 9 and collided head on with an eastbound vehicle.
The collision fatally injured a 37-year-old woman and sent a 23-year-old Bolton woman to the hospital.
Officials closed the eastbound side of Route 9 while crews worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
