SMITHFIELD, RI – Local police confirmed that it was 20-year-old Austin Dean who lost his life in a head-on crash that took place on Putnam Pike Monday.
This new piece of information comes from WPRI, stating that Dean graduated from North Attleboro High School in 2023 and was part of the wrestling and football teams. To recap, the collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. when Dean collided head-on with another vehicle. Once EMS personnel arrived, they transported Dean to a hospital, where he was initially in critical condition but later died.
Police did not specify whether it was Dean or the other driver who was responsible for drifting off the lanes. What officers did confirm, however, was that the other motorist and their passenger, a child, survived and were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The surviving occupants’ conditions and contributing factors still remain unclear.
