Man accused of causing deadly crash in North Attleborough faces additional charges

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, MA – A driver who allegedly caused a deadly three-vehicle collision on August 28 is facing more charges because another person has died, according to WJAR.

Joseph Pompei, 50, was driving a grey Ford Mercury on I-95 SB when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a white SUV. The crash sent the SUV flying across the median, where it slammed into a black sedan in the northbound traffic lanes around 4:15 p.m.

Rescue crews transported Randall Rickets and James Griffin, 61,  to an area hospital, where Rickets died. Officials said Griffin died on October 10 from his injuries.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office initially charged Pompei with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, leaving the scene of an accident death resulting and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident-causing personal injury.

Pompei is now facing more charges because of Griffin’s death. These new charges include leaving the scene of an accident, death resulting and motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation.

Pompei will be arraigned on these new charges on his next court date.
