RICHMOND, RI – One driver rear-ended another vehicle on I-95 North, sending the passenger of the hit car to Kent County Hospital, where they later died Wednesday.
This collision happened around 2 p.m. on the right lane and led both vehicles to drift off the road and overturn, according to Turnto10.
The driver of the rear-ended vehicle was sent to Rhode Island Hospital in serious condition, while the driver and passenger of the first vehicle sustained minor wounds and were treated at the crash site.
After arriving, Rhode Island Police and crews closed the northbound lanes for around 30 minutes to accommodate a medical helicopter. That aircraft was later disregarded and sent away after their services were no longer needed.
Rhode Island State Police launched an investigation and have not released additional information at this time. Anyone with more information is asked to contact officials at the phone number listed in the source.
