PROVIDENCE, RI – A Woonsocket couple died Saturday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 95 South near the Route 113 West entry, reports NBC 10 News.
Rhode Island State Police identified the victims as Bernard Olmo, 73, and Milagros Olmo, 69. Investigators say Bernard Olmo was driving the vehicle at the time. Police suspect that the man may have experienced a medical emergency just before the collision.
According to troopers, the crash occurred when the Olmos’ car left the roadway, veered onto a nearby ramp, and struck another vehicle. Officials say the impact sent the first vehicle into the air, then down an embankment.
The second vehicle overturned on the ramp after the collision. State police say the woman driving the second vehicle suffered severe injuries in the wreck. She is reportedly still in critical condition as of Tuesday.
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal wreck and the events that led up to it.
