EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – Officials have released the name of the woman who died in a crash near Veterans Memorial Pkwy and Crown Ave on Sunday, according to WJAR.
Offices spotted a suspicious white Kia sedan in the parking lot of the Bullocks Point Village apartment complex. Chaz Gagnon, 20, gave officers a false name before speeding off.
The officers did not chase after Gagnon because of the heavy fog in the area.
Moments later, emergency crews responded to a crash around 1 a.m. They found Ariana Roody, 20, unconscious with severe injuries and transported her to an area hospital, where she died.
Crews also transported Gagnon to an area hospital with injuries to his lower body.
Authorities have charged Gagnon with driving to endanger death, resulting in reckless driving, eluding police, obstructing an officer in the execution of duty, and three counts of fugitive from justice.
Gagnon is in police custody at an area hospital.
