SMITHFIELD, RI – According to WJAR, officials have released the name of the man who drove into the Subway at Apple Valley Mall on June 7.
Jeffery Barden, 69, struck another vehicle in the mall’s parking lot before crashing into the Subway. Charlotte Vaca, 47, died in the collision. Four other people were injured in the incident.
Authorities are waiting for lab results to determine if Barden was having a medical emergency or was impaired during the crash.
The incident is under investigation by Smithfield police and the attorney general’s office.
