PROVIDENCE, RI – An intoxicated driver had crashed into two cruisers, injuring their two passengers and one Providence police officer Monday.
The collision occurred at 10:15 p.m. on Route 10 and left one of the vehicles with significant damage, a WJAR News 10 photo shows. The Providence Police Department said the driver had struck the patrol cars while officers were conducting a traffic stop.
One ambulance vehicle transported the two passengers from the civilian car to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and the other took the officer to another local hospital. All occupants are recovering from non-life-threatening wounds.
Officers confirmed that the civilian driver was charged with the following: Reckless Driving, Driving to Endanger Resulting in Physical Injury, and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor (BAC Unknown).
An investigation is underway.
