PAWTUCKET, RI – A man sustained serious injuries Wednesday afternoon in an accident along the interstate in east-central Providence County, reports WPRI 12 News.
The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on I-95 in Pawtucket, about six miles northeast of Providence. Police haven’t yet provided a cross street or mile marker for the crash.
Authorities say that a tire became detached from a northbound vehicle and struck the windshield of a southbound vehicle. A second southbound vehicle then crashed into the rear of the car that had been hit by the tire.
The driver of the first southbound vehicle went to the hospital with serious injuries.
The collision caused significant delays on both sides of the interstate while crews worked at the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
