HOPKINTON, RI – Police are searching for the man they say was responsible for a crash that killed an elderly woman in Hopkinton on Halloween, WPRI reports.
Authorities say that Keith Brown, 34, was driving under the influence of drugs when he collided head-on with a vehicle on Route 138 that afternoon. Elisabeth Thayer, an 88-year-old passenger in the other vehicle, died at the scene. Her 57-year-old daughter, who had been driving, was hospitalized with serious internal injuries. She has since been released.
Brown suffered injuries to his ribs, arm, and leg. A 35-year-old passenger was also hurt.
Witnesses told investigators that Brown had been driving erratically prior to the crash, and was seen weaving into oncoming traffic. A toxicology report found that his blood contained fentanyl and methadone, and he was charged with several crimes including driving under the influence resulting in death.
Brown, who lives in both Hope Valley and Fall River, was scheduled to appear in court today, but did not. The Hopkinton Police Department is asking the public’s help in determining his whereabouts, and say he may still have casts on his right arm and leg.
