NEW BEDFORD, MA – A man died following a fire at a three-story, multi-family home on Hemlock St Monday, WPRI reports.
Firefighters were dispatched to the home around 5 a.m. Upon arrival, they saw heavy fire emanating from the second story.
Crews made their way inside and discovered Daniel Dupont, 65, on the second floor.
Dupont was transported in critical condition to an area hospital where he died.
In addition to Dupont, a woman who suffered smoke inhalation and was also taken to a local hospital
According to firefighters, rescue efforts were hampered by hoarding within the apartment.
The fire displaced five families. The fire marshal is investigating the incident. Fire Chief Scott Kruger says the fire appears to be accidental.
