2 pinned, injured as guardrail crashes into SUV in Mansfield

MANSFIELD, MA – An SUV driver crashed into a I-495 guardrail, causing a part of the rail to pierce through the car, pinning the driver and passenger and injuring them both Friday. 

The solo collision happened after 11:30 a.m. along the Route 140 connector, WJAR News said. It took local fire crews 45 minutes to extricate the man, while it took crews less time to free the woman. Once the extrication was complete, both were sent to area hospitals. 

The driver is at Good Samaritan Hospital recovering from non-life-threatening wounds, and the passenger is at Sturdy Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. 

​​Massachusetts State Police started an investigation and has not released other details.
