Train Fatally Strikes Vehicle Near North Wilmington MBTA

WILMINGTON, MA – A fatal crash between a train and a vehicle was reported near the North Wilmington MBTA Station Saturday, according to WJAR.

Roberta Sausville, 68, was driving east on Middlesex Ave when the train struck the driver’s side of her vehicle sometime Saturday night.

It is unclear if Sausville died at the scene or at an area hospital.

Officials believe human error may have caused the collision. Prior to the crash, a worker was performing maintenance on the crossing system.

Once the maintenance was completed, the safety system was not returned to its operating mode. This caused the crossing gates not to come down in a timely manner as the train approached the intersection.
