FALL RIVER, MA – According to WJAR, a man was convicted and sentenced to prison for a fatal crash that happened on MA 24 near exit 1 on June 8, 2021.
Alexander Farias, 30, was driving a 2004 Ford F-250 south on MA 24 while under the influence of fentanyl and cocaine when he entered the northbound lanes of traffic and collided with a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado operated by James Dumas Jr., 35, around 2:30 p.m.
Dumas died from injuries sustained in the collision. Rescue crews transported Farias to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities found drugs and large capacity firearm magazine in Farias’ truck. A blood test showed Farias had cocaine and fentanyl in his system.
Farias pleaded guilty to manslaughter while driving under the influence, a firearms charge, and multiple drug charges.
A judge sentenced Farias to five years in prison and two years of probation.
