EXETER, RI – Three people were hospitalized and a driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a rollover along I-95 in Exeter on Wednesday, reports NBC 10 News.
Rhode Island State Police said the crash took place around 4:50 p.m. on the northbound side of the interstate. Officials report that 21-year-old Connecticut man Calvin Kilgore was driving a BMW at high speed just before the collision occurred.
Police say Kilgore changed lanes to pass a slower driver on the right. He reportedly lost control and hit the median barrier. Then, the BMW flipped over several times before coming to a stop in the median.
One passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Massachusetts, got ejected during the rollover and suffered major injuries. The driver and another passenger, a 23-year-old man from Connecticut, were also injured, but police described their injuries as minor.
Emergency crews took all three people to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Police later arrested the driver. Officials accuse him of DUI causing serious bodily injury and reckless driving.
Authorities held the driver overnight at the state police barracks in advance of his arraignment on Thursday.
