Police make arrest in connection to fatal crash in Exeter

EXETER, RI – Rhode Island State Police have made an arrest in connection to a fatal crash that took place in Exeter late Saturday night.

WJAR reports that an SUV hit 24-year-old Milbia Hernandez at about 10:15 p.m. that night, as she was standing in the northbound lanes of the 300 block of South County Trail. Witnesses told investigators they believed Hernandez had been pushed onto the roadway by another woman.

Emergency responders took her to an area hospital, where she died.

RISP arrested Tariq Famogun, 26, at about 4 a.m. the following morning in connection to the collision. They say Famogun had violated an order of protection and had obstructed their investigation.

They say that the SUV’s driver and other witnesses remained at the scene. Traffic on South County trail was shut down from Exeter Street South to about the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
