Officer, wrong-way driver hurt in Cranston head-on crash

CRANSTON, RI – A driver of a Nissan was traveling the wrong way and collided head-on with a Cranston Police car, resulting in both of them suffering injuries Saturday.

This collision took place around 4 p.m. in the area of Oaklawn Avenue and Atwood Avenue. Turnto10 said the police lieutenant driving the police cruiser could not swerve his vehicle to the side of the road to avoid the crash, as there were several parked vehicles along the southbound lanes. Despite the sirens that came from the car, the wrong-way driver continued traveling in the same direction, resulting in the collision.

The officer and wrong-way driver were taken to a hospital. Officials have not reported any pending citations or charges for the motorist’s involvement in this collision at this time.
