Pedestrian fatally struck by off-duty officer in Brockton

BROCKTON, MA – A 23-year-old died Monday in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash in east-central Plymouth County, reports Mass Live. 

The accident occurred early in the morning in the city of Brockton, about 24 miles south of Boston.

The driver involved in the accident did not stop to render aid, and the victim died after transport to an area hospital.

Authorities later located an arrested a suspect driver, whom they have since identified as Officer Thomas Hayes.

Hayes was off duty at the time of the crash. He faces charges that include motor vehicle homicide and fleeing the scene of a deadly crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
