NEW BEDFORD, MA – A drunk driver fatally struck an elderly woman in southeast Bristol County Friday morning, reports WPRI 12 News.
Just after 8:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to an auto-pedestrian crash at the intersection of MA-18 North and Coggeshall Street in New Bedford.
Police say that 34-year-old Andrew Johansen was intoxicated when he struck two pedestrians.
One of the pedestrians, a 70-year-old woman, sustained fatal injuries. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name to the public.
Medics transported the other victim to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Johansen was charged with motor vehicle homicide by OUI.
A full investigation is underway.
