Rear-end driver charged in DUI crash at Eustis, Bliss

NEWPORT, RI – A woman and a police officer were hurt over the weekend in a two-vehicle collision in southwest Newport County, reports WPRI 12 News.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, emergency teams responded to an accident at Eustis Avenue and Bliss Road in Newport, about 13 miles southeast of North Kingstown.

A 38-year-old driver, police say, was likely intoxicated when her vehicle rear-ended a police cruiser near the intersection. The driver, later identified as Erin Moitoza, left the scene instead of stopping to render aid.

Both Moitoza and the police officer involved in the accident sustained non-life-threatening injuries. It’s unclear if they required hospitalization.

Authorities located and charged Moitoza not long after the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
