SMITHFIELD, RI – A 68-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Tuesday afternoon in a collision that happened in north Providence County, reports WPRI 12.
Around 3 p.m., emergency crews were called to a rollover crash on Douglas Pike, or Route 7, near Rankin Road. This is Smithfield, about 16 miles northwest of Providence.
Authorities haven’t yet shared any details regarding the cause or circumstances of the accident except to say that it involved an overturned vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Dennis Hynes, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
No other injuries have been reported in connection to the accident.
A full investigation is underway.
