WESTERLY, RI – An 87-year-old man and dog lost their lives after they were struck by a vehicle in a home driveway Wednesday.
Westerly police told WJAR News 10 that the fatal collision happened around 1:45 p.m. on Atlantic Avenue. First responders rushed to the scene and took the man and dog to nearby emergency rooms, where they later died.
Preliminary details show that the man’s wife, an 84-year-old woman, struck both of them while either backing out of the driveway or going forward. Officers suspect that the woman did not intentionally run over her husband and the dog. No criminal charges were announced.
