PROVIDENCE COUNTY, RI – Two people were injured as a result of a pedestrian accident Wednesday afternoon, February 19, in a Johnston neighborhood, according to WPRI.
The collision took place in the area of Plainfield Street and Evergreen Drive, shortly after 3:30 p.m.
Officials determined that a 68-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman were on foot when they crossed Plainfield Street. A preliminary investigation shows that direction of the sun at the time might have reduced visibility, resulting in the pair being hit by a driver in an SUV.
The two pedestrians were rushed to an area hospital. While the woman’s condition was not specified, officials said the man’s injuries are significant.
The driver, who stayed at the scene following the incident, is cooperating with investigators.
No pending charges or citations were immediately announced.
