Woman, 41, arrested for DUI crash with baby in Scituate 

SCITUATE, RI – A 41-year-old woman, who was intoxicated, was arrested after she crashed her car on Hope Furnace Road while her 10-month-old son was with her Monday.

This collision occurred around 6 p.m., and the impact left the car with front-end damage, and airbags were also deployed as a result, according to WPRI. Upon arrival, police said the woman — Jennifer Colon — fell over several times. During her sobriety test, she claimed she “only had two shots” and had fallen backward. Medics attempted to help Colon up, but she proceeded to kick them. She was taken into custody and faces several charges.

Her charges consist of: “two counts of child neglect/endangerment and single counts of DUI, reckless driving, simple assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.” The impact of this collision led Colon to sustain minor wounds, and she was sent to Rhode Island Hospital while her child was unharmed.

Despite no inflicted wounds to the child, an ambulance driver still took the child to Hasbro Children’s Hospital as a precaution and for a medical evaluation.

The R.I. The Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF.) were notified of the situation and  have put the 10-month-old and another child into a safe and caring environment.
