PROVIDENCE, RI – A 21-year-old man walking onto the I-95 incoming traffic was hit by a vehicle on Saturday, leading to his death, WPRI reports.
Prior to the man getting struck, his driver, for reasons unspecified, pulled over onto the I-95 shoulder around 11:30 p.m. For reasons unclear, the driver then went onto the interstate, resulting in the deadly collision.
The driver of the moving vehicle and the man’s driver both remained at the collision site. Rhode Island State Police said the impact of this crash led the 21-year-old man, only identified as a Pawtucket resident, to succumb to fatal wounds at the scene.
Due to the nature of this wreck, officers and crews were left with no choice but to shutdown two lanes of I-95, which have opened since.
