Intoxicated driver arrested after Route 95 hit-and-run in Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI – A 55-year-old man, who was said to have been intoxicated, was arrested after causing a hit-and-run crash on Route 95 Monday.

Rhode Island State Police told ABC6 that he exhibited signs of impairment when interacting with a police officer and refused to take a sobriety test upon request.

The motorist has been identified as James Silvia and was arrested before 2:30 p.m. Monday and sent to the Lincoln Woods Barracks. He was brought before a Justice of Peace who then released him into custody administered by a “responsible adult.”

Aside from a DUI charge, Silvia also has charges with respect to failing to stop for an accident, damage to a vehicle, and declining the ordered chemical test.

Officials did not say if the victims involved were injured.
