NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI – According to WJAR, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed one pedestrian and injured another on RI 146 near Sayles Hill Rd on Wednesday.
Nicholas Stone, 25, was driving when he hit Thomas Lamoureux, 63, and Jeremey Davis, 36. Lamoureux died in the collision. Rescue crews transported Davis to an area hospital in stable condition.
Stone continued driving after colliding with the pedestrians. He also sideswiped a RIPTA van that was in the breakdown lane.
Authorities located Stone at a Walmart a few miles down the road. Stone had blood shot eyes and an alcohol nip. He failed a sobriety test authorities gave him.
Stone admitted to officers he knew he hit two pedestrians.
Authorities charged Stone with driving under the influence resulting in death.and other charges.
Stone’s bail was set at $75,000 with surety under the condition he can’t drive.
